Meeting in Chianciano

The annual meeting of the UCP coordinators and regional representatives was held at the Hotel Fortuna, in Chianciano on the 5th of June. Participation in the event was more than satisfactory (45 coordinators) and discussion on various topics was lively. As customary, after the introductory greetings and welcome on behalf of the president, the meeting began with the exposition of data of the Annual Report, gathered by Gianluca Occelli and commented by Gaetano Tessera. There was absolutely no significative change in procedures regarding surgery in comparison with last year’s numbers and the trend of the treatment of single pathologies appeared well consolidated.
Topics that aroused particular interest were obstructed defecation and cancer of the low rectum: in the former there has been a reduction in surgery, suddivided equally between Delorme and STARR, and with a debut in a few cases , of the use of mesh; in the second the neoadjuvant treatment is considered a necessary step. After a short interval, the meeting continued with the exposition of five topics: the chairmen (Altomare, Cadeddu, Zorcolo, Mistrangelo, Latteneddu) illustrated with expertise, the various topics arousing the interest of the public that participated actively with comments during the discussion.
The last topic of the meeting, chaired by Mario Pescatori and by Filippo la Torre gave a clear picture of the future of the SICCR. The first topic treated regarded the choice of the place of the annual meeting. Participants voted that the meetings alternate in Chianciano and other places. Next year it will be held in Venice. The following topic regarded the general conditions of the UCPs.
Next year tests will be carried out to verify their activities but it is also considered necessary to encourage coordinators to participate in the SICCR activities and they are invited to show a greater participation in educational and cultural events with concrete contributions to the SICCR activities nationwide.
The meeting concluded with a dinner party that served to seal the success of the meeting and to reinforce the fraternal relationship of collaboration among its members.
