It started in 1993 as “UCP News”, Bulletin of the Coloproctology Units, still a crucial network of the SICCR, then changed to “Techniques” in 1995. It was published in Italian and English, then only in English. Steve Wexner, from the Cleveland Clinic, was the first co-Editor. Both Mayo Clinic and St Mark’s Hospital supported the project with members of the Editorial Board.
Some outstanding Italian coloproctologists were also involved. “Techniques” became indexed in 2000, with the Springer-Verlag as Publisher. It is the official journal of several colorectal Societies, including Italian, Mediterranean, Israel, Eurasian and Chinese.
The SICCR uses to publish its Annual Report and Guidelines. “Techniques” has the impact factor since 2010, and will be published every two months starting from 2012. Full text downloads have been 4,352 in 2010. The rejection rate is 64%, the referees are about 150 per year, and articles are submitted from 37 countries in the world, the leading ones being UK, Italy, USA and Singapore.
