Minutes of the meeting held by the SICCR section of specialization in stoma rehabilitation – Saint Vincent, 20th April 2010

The following were present at the meeting:
Roberto Aloesio, Paola Cellerino, Antonio D’Elia, Claudio Elbetti, Stefano Mancini.

The section describes the work it would like to complete in the next months. In particular, special attention will be given to readjusting the formats of the courses on stoma rehabilitation, which, so far, have been employed twice in congresses, and once during an educational event sponsored by the SICCR in Milan. Their employment is likely during next Educational Meeting to be held in Rome. It is believed that the formats can be proposed again to the Regional Representatives as educational events nationwide. So far, the format has not been formally proposed to the Directors of the General Surgery Speciality Schools. The SICCR Presidency and Directive Council should forward this request. For this reason, Antonio D’Elia has drafted a letter that should be forwarded to the Directors of the Speciality Schools, and which has already been submitted to the SICCR President, and later on will be sent via e-mail.
Hopefully, a direct telephone contact Director by Director will take place, for stronger support of the above letter.
A file which collects all the figures for an audit on enteric stomas in SICCR CPUs, and which will be presented to the CPU Coordinators and to the SICCR Regional Representatives who will attend next meeting in Chianciano, has been prepared by Antonio D’Elia. The data will be elaborated and sent to the journal “Techniques in Coloproctology”. A questionnaire on the quality of life of stoma carriers has been proposed, and the results of this survey have been presented to Paola Cellerino, during the recent SICCR congress in Catania. The possibility of preparing this questionnaire in Italian has been discussed, and it has been decided to carry out a study about it. Paola Cellerino will be in charge, and, once the items will have been translated in Italian, she will be responsible for sending it by email to the centres involved in the study. These will then hand it out directly to their patients. The possibility of elaborating it statistically, by means of the SICCR Science Centre, will also be taken into consideration, after the relevant costs will have been defined. Finally, a proposal of a retrospective study on the incidence of stomas carried out in emergency operations and their outcome, will be sent via mail by Antonio D’Elia to all members of the section, with the purpose of preparing a paper for the SICCR Educational Meeting which will take place next December.
